Controller

Job Description – CONTROLLER

SEAF is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Controller. The Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing audit processes, grant accounting, fund accounting, and general accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be based in Washington, DC, and must be available to work a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • General Accounting Tasks:
    • Supervise day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
    • Reconcile bank statements, financial reports, and balance sheets.
    • Implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Audit Oversight and Support:
    • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion of annual audits.
    • Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, and documentation for audit purposes.
    • Address audit queries and implement recommendations to enhance internal controls.
  • Grant Accounting Oversight:
    • Manage the financial aspects of grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
    • Ensure accurate recording of grant-related transactions and adherence to donor requirements.
    • Collaborate with program teams to monitor grant expenditures and provide financial insights.
  • Fund Accounting Oversight:
    • Oversee the accounting for various funds, ensuring accuracy and compliance with fund agreements.
    • Work closely with investment teams to track and report on fund performance.
    • Provide analysis and reporting on fund financials to support decision-making.

Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.

– Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in accounting, with a focus on audit, grant accounting, and fund accounting.

– Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.

– Experience working with auditors and managing the audit process.

– Familiarity with nonprofit accounting and compliance requirements.

– Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

– Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.

– Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Grant Accountant

Job Description – GRANT ACCOUNTANT

SEAF is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and detail oriented Senior Accountant to work alongside our accounting team and Grants Manager. This Accountant will focus primarily on grants and HQ operations including maintaining relationship with grant, government, and other public agencies, reconcile various operating and grant accounts, and processing accounts payable reimbursements. The position is based in Washington, DC with the option for a hybrid schedule. SEAF will consider remote applicants based on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Grant Accounting:
    • Maintain accurate records and supporting materials for all grant transactions
    • Collaborate with Grant Manager on budget to actuals
    • Keep contact with grant, government, and public agencies to ensure timely receipt of funds and during audits
    • Processing accounts payable and employee reimbursements
    • Cash management and bank reconciliations for various operating and grant accounts
    • Manage credit card reports on a monthly basis
    • AP and prepaid reconciliations
    • Handle inquiries from vendors and employees
    • Prepare invoices, checks, account statements, reports and other records and review for accuracy
    • Work closely with external auditors on Grant audits
  • General Account Functions:
    • Assist in the SEAF consolidated audit
    • Assist in general accounting duties on an as-needed basis

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in accounting, with preference for candidates with grant or fund accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Job Description – STAFF ACCOUNTANT

SEAF is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and detailed oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This accountant will primarily work with HQ operating expenses and vendor relations but may be asked to assist on other global funds or grants as needed. The position is based in Washington, DC with the option for a hybrid schedule. SEAF will consider remote applicants based on experience.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Grant Accounting:
    • Processing accounts payable and employee reimbursements
    • Cash management
    • Manage credit card reports on a monthly basis
    • Assisting in payroll and benefits accounting
    • Complete bank reconciliations for two operating accounts as well as various other accounts
    • AP and prepaid reconciliations
    • Prepare fixed asset rollforward
    • Handle inquiries from vendors and employees
    • Prepare invoices, checks, account statements, reports and other records and review for accuracy
    • Assist in the SEAF consolidated audit
    • Assist in general accounting duties on an as-needed basis
