SEAF Exits Polish Bookseller

Warsaw, Poland—Global impact investment manager SEAF announced that that is has exited its positions in Matras S.A., the second largest book retailer in Poland.  SEAF had provided both equity and term credit to help the chain open new stores and renovate existing ones, expand its internet sales channel and wholesale market, increase its efficiency, and optimize its cost structure.  The exit was finalized in August of 2014.

About Matras

Matras S.A. started operations in the late 1980s as an association of regional distributors of underground newspapers for Poland’s Solidarity movement.   It has since expanded operations to become the second largest book retailer in Poland.  Matras currently sells books on a retail basis through more than 187 stores in more than 70 cities throughout Poland. The Company also sells books wholesale to private schools, libraries and smaller distribution outlets.
